Antisipasi Banjir, Pemprov DKI Siap Lakukan OMC

Jakarta Govt Prepares for Weather Modification Operation

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the Jakarta Provincial Government will continue to monitor weather conditions and rainfall intensity to anticipate potential impacts.

"If needed, we'll definitely go ahead with the weather modification,"

He mentioned that if rainfall intensity increases, a Weather Modification Operation (OMC) would be carried out.

"We're monitoring it for now. Extreme weather can change at any time. If needed, we'll definitely go ahead with the weather modification," he asserted on Wednesday (7/9).

Weather Modification Operation Conducted to Anticipate Extreme Weather

If necessary, he added, the Regional Disaster Management Agency (BPBD) would report on the implementation of OMC. So far, he noted that rainfall in Jakarta hasn't been as intense as in surrounding areas.

"Looking at the past few days, Jakarta's rainfall hasn't been too high. But upstream, it's heavier. If the upstream flow is redirected, it either goes to Jakarta or the sea, which could end up burdening Jakarta," he explained.

Nevertheless, Pramono said that flooding in several parts of Jakarta has been well-managed. The Jakarta Government will also work on clearing the blocked drainagge on main roads to prevent inundation.

"In several areas, including Kuningan, the water inlets are easily clogged by branches. I've requested replacements for those kinds of inlets," he said.
